It’s equipped with a rooftop solar installation that enables it to generate 50% of the building power. Other energy-efficient features include a high-efficiency electric heat pump heating and cooling system, electric-car charging in all parking stalls and more.
“Buildings create about 17.5 per cent of our greenhouse gases compared to transportation, which is about 16.2 per cent,” says Jason Wexler of BPP. He predicts we’ll see a lot more gas-free buildings—where possible—as developers try to meet West Vancouver’s goals to reduce carbon pollution from both old and new buildings. “This is the first one we’ve done, but it will likely be our blueprint for how we develop our future Cypress Village,” Wexler adds.
